A Blessing

The following poem was recently shared by SoulCollage® facilitator and trainer, Catherine Anderson, and prompted my own SoulCollage® card using the image of a door as a symbol of stepping into a new year filled with adventure and possibilities.

Opening the door into a new year

Opening the door into a new year

The photo was taken before I slipped the protective sleeve over the card, and gives just a hint of what lies beyond the open door. Much like the year ahead.

Doors, thresholds, and pathways have always attracted me; there are stories within and behind every entry, and every step that takes you to places unseen and beyond where you are now. Doorways are openings that offer themselves to you as an invitation…bidding you comfort and rest within, or adventure and exploration without.

May your house be a blessing to you, and may its doors always welcome you home.

The Year as a House: A Blessing

Think of the year
as a house:
door flung wide
in welcome,
threshold swept
and waiting,
a graced spaciousness
opening and offering itself
to you.

Let it be blessed
in every room.
Let it be hallowed
in every corner.
Let every nook
be a refuge
and every object
set to holy use.

Let it be here
that safety will rest.
Let it be here
that health will make its home.
Let it be here
that peace will show its face.
Let it be here
that love will find its way.

let the weary come
let the aching come
let the lost come
let the sorrowing come.

let them find their rest
and let them find their soothing
and let them find their place
and let them find their delight.

And may it be
in this house of a year
that the seasons will spin in beauty,
and may it be
in these turning days
that time will spiral with joy.
And may it be
that its rooms will fill
with ordinary grace
and light spill from every window
to welcome the stranger home.

SoulCollage® – Agent of Change

In this video, Seena Frost, founder of SoulCollage®, talks about using the SoulCollage® process to effect both internal and external changes.  The practice of SoulCollage® invites us to discover, welcome and accept all parts of ourselves, and in doing this, we become far more accepting of others.  We begin to understand that each of us is a combination of shadow/light – “both/and” not “either/or.” Our ability to honour the diversity in others begins when we are first able to accept and honour the diversity in ourselves.  In this way, each of us become change agents, bringing balance and healing to the world.

Making SoulCollage® Cards

Love this poem by Rumi – it speaks about honouring these “guests” who make their home within us:

The Guesthouse

This being human is a guesthouse.

Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,

Some momentary awareness comes

As an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!

Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,

Who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture,

Still, treat each guest honourably.

He may be clearing you out for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,

Meet them at the door laughing,

And invite them in.

Be grateful for whatever comes,

Because each has been sent

  As a guide from beyond.
